The Government Botanical Gardens is a Botanical Garden in Udagamandalam (Ooty) Tamil Nadu state, India, were laid out in 1847. The Gardens, separated into several sections, cover an area of approximately 22 hectares, and lie on the lower slope of the Doddabeta peak. The garden has a terraced design. It is maintain by the Tamil Nadu Horticulture Department.
It ascend the slope of the hill at an elevation of 2400–2500 metres above signify Sea Level. The garden enjoy a warm temperate climate, with an normal rainfall of 140 cms, the most of which is received during south-west monsoon, with frosty nights from November to February. The maximum and minimum temperatures are 28°C and 0°C respectively.
The "Summer Festivals" is held every year during the month of May in the Botanical Garden and is an added attraction for tourist. The Flower Show is the pleasure of the festival. To the east of the garden is the Toda mund (hill). The Todas are the native tribe. At the mund is a display highlighting the different aspect of their traditional culture.
A flower show the length of with an exhibition of rare plant species is held every year in the month of May at this garden. A very extensive variety of plants that include special types of roses, import shrubs,rare flowering plants etc.
