Meenakshi Amman Temple



Madurai  is the third biggest city in the Indian state of TamilNadu and one of the oldest constantly populated cities in the world. It serve as the capital city of the Pandyan Kingdom. It is the organizational headquarters of Madurai District and is famed for its temples built and Madurai Nayak kings in the Dravidian style of building. It is also one of India's famous Hindu pilgrimage centres.



The Meenakshi temple is assumed to be found by Indra while he was on a pilgrimage to treat his misdeed . He felt his burden taken off nearing the swayambu  lingamof Madurai. He recognized this wonder to the lingam and construct the temple and enshrine the lingam there. Indra worshipped Shiva, who caused golden lotuses to appear in the near-by pool.

 
 
The temple intricate is divided into a number of concentric quadrangular enclosure restricted by high masonary walls. It is one of the few temples in Tamil Nadu to have four entrances facing four directions. Vishwantha Nayaka allegedly redesigned the city of Madurai in accordance with the principles laid down by  relevant to urban arrangement.
