San Francisco Tour - The Wonderful Alcatraz Island

Alcatraz Island is otherwise called as The Rock. It is a small island situated in the middle of San Francisco Bay in California, United States. Out in the center of the San Francisco Bay, the island of Alcatraz is a world unto itself. Isolation, one of the constants of island life for any inhabitant – soldier, guard, prisoner, bird or plant – is a regular theme in the powerful history of Alcatraz.

Now Alcatraz is San Francisco's mainly well-known tourist attraction, about a million people visit the island each & every year. Alcatraz Island the small island provide as a lighthouse, a military fortification, a federal prison, and a Federal Bureau of Prisons until 1963. Later, Alcatraz became part of Golden Gate National hobby Area and National Historic attraction in 1986.

The histories of the island include armed use as a fort, an military prison camp, a Native American peace population, and the location of America’s most dangerous criminals. The prison held Al Scarface Capone and Robert “The Birdman” Stroud.

In the course of its 30 year subsistence the prison conventional a total of 1,576 convicts. There were in no way more than 250 at any one time, even though there were 450 cells measuring about 10x4ft/sx1.5m.

At times the number of guards, etc. was greater than that of the convicts. At night, prisoners could even hear parties and laughter across the bay. Powers that be certain that didn’t make sense to keep the Alcatraz Prison because of the high operational and maintenance cost since they could as well have booked hotel rooms for the inmates at lower prices.
